What attitude will help you through life’s journey? "Far: Lone Sails" by Okomotive centers around guiding a little red protagonist through a desolate world in order to reach the sea. Through the journey, the protagonist encounters loneliness, decay, storms, eruptions, as well as beauty and resilience. Each encounter can be overcome through remembering Paul's words in Philippians 4:6 & 11-12.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. . . Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need" (NASB).
"Far: Lone Sails" starts with the protagonist leaving home and a family member's grave to go on a journey. On the journey, the protagonist drives her all-terrain Ocomotive through the remains of a fallen civilization. Shattered homes, listless windmills, empty lakes, and scrap piles litter the landscape. The land itself struggles to support life as the protagonist escapes tornadoes, thunderstorms, and volcanic eruptions. The final eruption also severs her from her faithful Ocomotive, leaving her all alone. In the midst of the destruction, there is beauty. Majestic vistas roll under the Ocomotive, stubborn oxen stake their claim on the land, stunning stars and sunsets peak out over the horizon. The mix of darkness and beauty mirrors everyone's journey.
In every circumstance of life, good and bad, Paul says to be thankful and to pray. Stop worrying and give that anxiety and concern to God. Follow Paul's instructions and learn to be content in all things. Be content when everyone leaves you, when the storms of life rage around you, when the sun peaks up over the horizon, and when life is just the hum drum desolate normal. Next, go beyond contentment and find joy in all circumstances. One can only gain joy and contentment through Christ who strengthens those who take refuge in Him.
Everyone can have a joyful and content attitude as they drive down their life's journey. Joy and contentment comes through thankfulness and giving worries to God, so go out and thank God for the beauty and even the troubles of life.
